Apple Picking

Neither of us had ever been apple picking before. Last Saturday, the weather was perfectly Fall around here, blue skies and 60s, so we decided it would be a good day to make a trip to an apple orchard.

We were surrounded by gorgeous hills and changing leaves.

We also picked out some pumpkins. Actually, I did the picking and Hubs did the carrying :-)

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon together!

After we picked our apples and our pumpkins we sat down for a little treat - apple cider donuts and hot cider. Delish!...and so worth the extra Weight Watchers points.

We have declared apple picking a yearly tradition!

So now we have tons of apples and I'm trying to come up with ways to use them. After almost three years of being married to an apple pie lover, I caved and attempted my mother-in-laws recipe. It definitely didn't come out as pretty as hers but the Hubs seems to have approved.

I also want to make some of this light crockpot apple butter and these light apple spiced scones.
